GUWAHATI/MANAS: A rare honor from the world of science has been bestowed upon Assam’s cultural icon, Zubeen Garg. A team of researchers from Gauhati University has discovered a new species of flowering plant in the grasslands of Manas National Park. In recognition of the artist’s contributions, the plant has been named ‘Osbeckia zubeengargiana’.

• Characteristics: It is a perennial, erect shrub that can grow up to 3.5 meters in height. The plant produces beautiful purple or pinkish flowers.
