KARBI ANGLONG/JORHAT: A pall of gloom and high anxiety has settled over central Assam as the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet crashed in the dense forests of Karbi Anglong early this morning. The aircraft, which took off from the Jorhat Air Force Station for a routine training mission, lost radar contact at 7:42 PM last night.
Current Status:
- Location: The crash site has been identified approximately 60 km from Jorhat.
- Search & Rescue: IAF helicopters and army ground units have been deployed into the rugged terrain of Karbi Anglong. As of 8:00 AM, the status of the two pilots remains unconfirmed.
- The Incident: This is the second major IAF incident in the region in recent months, raising concerns about aging airframes and technical maintenance during high-alert periods.
